About This Class:

This class meets Thursdays from 9a-12p, Sept 18th – Nov 13th (9 weeks)

POTTERY II is a 9-week intermediate-level clay class which has been called the “Frequent Flyer” class!

Since so many exciting new clay skills and techniques are introduced, most students choose to repeat the class several times, each time to focus on mastering a specific area of their personal interest.

Pottery II students work semi-independently in a series of broad assignment options which develop new skills and insights in clay as an art form.

Pottery II students are able to focus on either wheel or handbuilding, or both. The students will:

 •  set individual goals for their area(s) of interest.

 • work to develop excellent craftsmanship and demonstrate an awareness of the elements & principles of design in their clay work.

 •  learn advanced pottery techniques including: making lids and sets, mastering handles, using colored clays, combining wheel and handbuilt forms, etc.

 •  learn more advanced decorating techniques including: underglazes on both raw and bisqued clay, wax and paper resist, embossing, sgraffito, mishima, monoprinting, airbrushing, screenprinting, etc.

 •  have options to work in various stoneware and porcelain clay bodies.

 •  participate in an ourdoor RAKU firing

 •  research the techniques and work of contemporary potters through current publications, books, and internet resources.

 •  participate in group discussion, analysis and critique.
